Fred C. Dand journal and letters, 1880 September-November.

Collection comprises a manuscript journal (1880 September 9-24) entitled "Life and adventures on Sea and land of F. C. D. and Co...." and two letters (undated and 1880 November 12) written by Dand to his family in England, all totaling 102 pgs. Dand described his voyage from England on the S.S. California with his wife, Lizzie, as well as his attempts to find a job in New York City. The journal ends with Dand's comments on popular preacher T. De Witt Talmage. Includes many drawings made by Dand, several as self-portraits.
